Bess's Chocolate Cake (Freddi Michael)

Ingredients:
1/2  cup  Cocoa
1  cup  Hot water
1  teaspoon  Baking soda
1  teaspoon  Salt
3  tablespoons  Butter
2    Eggs
1 1/2  cups  Flour
1 1/3  cups  Sugar
2  teaspoons  Baking powder
1  teaspoon  Vanilla

--FROSTING--
1 1/2  cups  Sugar
1/2  cup  Hot water
1/4  teaspoon  Cream of tartar
  pinch  Salt
2    Egg whites
2  teaspoons  Vanilla

Directions:
1. In saucepan, combine cocoa, hot water, soda, salt, and butter and heat over mdm heat until butter melts, stirring occasionally. Set aside to cool. Grease 2 layer cake pans. When mixture is cook, beat in the eggs. Sift together flour, sugar, and baking powder and add to chocolate mixture. Stir in vanilla. (Taste the batter! Sigh!) Pour into pans and bake 30-40 mins at 350 degrees.

2. Place sugar, water, cream of tartar, salt, egg white, and vanilla in a lg bowl and beat on high speed wtih electric mixer until thick enough to spread. Lick the beaters and get frosting all over your face, hair, and ears. It's wonderful.
