Burnt Sugar Cake #3
Place sugar in heavy skillet; cook and stir until sugar melts and turns amber color. Add water and bring to boil; remove and cool. Cream brown sugar and shortening; add cooled sugar mixture. Add milk, flour, baking powder, salt and egg yolks. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form; add to batter. Pour into prepared cake pan. Bake at 375o F for 30 minutes.
Frosting: Burnt Sugar Cake
2 cups brown sugar 1/2 cup cream or milk 2 Tablespoons margarine Dash of vanilla
Mix all ingredients together until creamy. Ice cake.
