Butternut Cake

1  cup  shortening
1 1/2  cups  sugar
3    eggs
1 3/4  cups  flour
1  teaspoon  baking powder
1  teaspoon  salt
1  cup  milk
1  teaspoon  vanilla extract
1  tablespoon  butternut flavoring

---Butternut Cake Frosting---
8  ounces  cream cheese, softened
1  box  confectioner's sugar
1  tablespoon  butternut flavoring
1  cup  chopped nuts
1  stick  butter

1. Preheat oven to 350F.

2. Mix shortening and sugar in a mixing bowl. Add and beat eggs into mixture, one egg at a time. Add flour, baking powder, salt and milk. Beat all well. Add vanilla and butternut flavoring. Beat mixture well. Pour into two greased, floured cake tins.

3. Bake at 350F for 25-30 minutes. Cool cake layers on racks for at least 5 minutes.

4. Frosting: Let the cream cheese soften before mixing. Mix all ingredients well. Frost the cake between the layers, on the sides and top.
