Festive Jam Filled Thumbprint Cookies

1  cup  Butter
1/2  cup  Brown sugar, packed
1/4  teaspoon  Salt
2    Eggs, separated
1  teaspoon  Almond extract
2  cups  Flour
1  cup  Nuts, finely chopped

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add brown sugar and salt; beat well. Beat in egg yolks and almond extract. Add flour, beating until well combined. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll the balls of dough in the slightly beaten egg whites. Then roll in nuts. Arrange on ungreased cookie sheets. Press the center of each cookie leaving a thumbprint. Bake 10-12 minutes or until done.

2. Remove to a wire rack to cool. If needed, rethumbprint cookies while still warm. When cool fill with jam or preserves.
