Food for the Gods

Author/Submitted by: "Lee J. Verallo" <ax@DURIAN.USC.EDU.PH>
Servings: 1
Categories: Bars / Desserts

Ingredients:
1 1/2  Cups  Melted Butter
3  Cups  Brown Sugar, (not packed)
4  Large  Eggs
2 1/2  Cups  All-Purpose Flour
1/2  Teaspoon  Salt
1  Tablespoon  Baking Powder
1 1/2  Cups  Dates, chopped
1 1/2  Cups  Walnuts, chopped

Directions:
Line 2 jelly roll pans with parchment paper. Set aside. Preheat oven to 350F. Beat eggs until light. Add brown sugar gradually. Beat until all the sugars has melted. Put in the melted butter and chopped dates. Beat at medium speed. Add the flour gradually with the baking powder and salt. Beat until no trace of flour is seen. Fold in chopped walnuts. Spread on jelly roll pans evenly and bake in a 350F oven. To test for doneness, the top should be golden and cake tester comes out clean (bake for about 40 minutes). Cool and refrigerate a little before cutting into bars. Wrap individually in colored cellophane wrappers.
