Forgotten Torte (wheat-free)

Ingredients:
6  Egg  Whites
1/4  Tsp  Salt
1 1/2  Cups  Sugar
1/2  Tsp  Cream Of Tartar
1  Tsp  Vanilla
1/2  Pint  Heavy Cream
    Powdered Sugar
    Strawberries, for garnish

Directions:
Allow eggs to come to room temperature. sprinkle with salt and beat until frothy. gradually add sugar and cream of tartar. add vanilla and beat until very stiff and glossy. Pour mix into a greased 9-in springform pan and place in preheated 400 F oven. immediately turn off oven and leave overnight. do not open oven door. The next day, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar to taste, remove meringue from oven and pan and place on plate. frost with cream and garnish with strawberries.
