Granola Bars - Hall

Author/Submitted by: hall@rose.pnyp (Laura Hall)
Servings: 1
Categories: Bars / Desserts

Ingredients:
3  Cups  Bran Flakes cereal, or similar
1  Cup  rolled oatmeal
1/2  Cup  chopped nuts
1/2  Cup  raisins or chopped dates
1/3  Cup  butter
1/3  Cup  honey
1/3  Cup  brown sugar

Directions:
Mix together cereal, oatmeal, nuts, and raisins. Mix butter, honey, and brown sugar in saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Stir constantly and boil for 5-6 minutes. Pour melted butter mixture over cereal. Toss to coat evenly. Grease a 9x9" pan. Press mixture into pan evenly, press very hard. Let sit 1 hr., then cut. NOTES: These have a tendency to stay soft, they still taste good. To make sure they get hard (bar-like). 1. Measure the cereal, nuts, and fruit slightly less than level. 2. Cook the butter mixture 6 min. instead of 5 min. Also, sustain a "decent" boil not just a simmer, but don't go overboard either. 3. Press the mixture into the pan VERY hard. This is the most important step. Don't worry about the flakes breaking. With too much air, they will not form bars.
