Bronx Brownies

Ingredients:
1/4  cup  shortening
1  ounce  semisweet chocolate
1/2  cup  maple syrup
1  teaspoon  vanilla
1/2  cup  sugar
2    eggs, beaten
1/2  cup  sifted flour
1/4  teaspoon  baking powder
1/4  teaspoon  salt
1/2  cup  chopped nuts

Directions:
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Melt shortening and chocolate together in medium saucepan over medium heat. Add maple syrup, vanilla, sugar and beaten eggs. Sift flour, baking powder and salt, then add nuts. Add this to first mixture. Pour into a shallow pan which has been lined with well-greased wax paper. Bake at 300 degrees F. for 45 minutes or until done. Cool and cut into 12 pieces.
