Ingredients:
-----SYRUP CAKE----- 1/2

Shortening 1 1/2
c
Cane syrup 2
Eggs 2
c
All purpose flour 1

Baking soda 1/2
ts
Salt 1/2

Cocoa 2/3
c
Milk 1

Vanilla
-----FROSTING----- 1/2
c
Butter 1/4
c
Cocoa 1/4
c
Milk PLUS 2

Milk 4

Up To 5 cups sifted powdered
Sugar 1

Directions:
For the Cake
Cream shortening; gradually add syrup, beating until smooth. Add
eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Combine flour, soda, salt and cocoa; add this mixture to the creamed
mixture alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour
mixture. Stir in vanilla
Pour batter into two greased and floured 9 inch round cakepans. Bake
at 350 for 25 - 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in the
center comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, remove layers
from pans and cool completely.
For the Chocolate Frosting
Combine butter, cocoa, and milk in a medium saucepan. Bring to a
boil over low heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and cool.
Gradually add sugar, beating well until spreading consistency. Stir
in the vanilla.
Spread frosting between layers and on top and sides of cake. This
will yield enough for one two layer cake.
