Grandma Luti's Bottle-rolled Pie Shell

Ingredients:

    iii----------------
1/2  c  crisco shortening
1/2  t  salt
1 1/2  c  all-purpose flour*
4  tb  ice cold water

Directions:
Throw away that store-bought rolling pin...Grandma Luti allowed that only a empty brandy bottle will work. **DO NOT USE SELF-RISING FLOUR FOR PIE SHELLS** Blend shortening into flour and salt until dough resembles small marbles. Sprinkle in water, one tablespoon at a time. (Keep ice cubes in water to maintain coldness). Blend with fork while adding water. Pastry is mixed when main ball of dough pulls bits of pastry from sides of bowl. Gather pastry into a ball. Place in round shape on lightly floured countertop. Roll pastry 1-1/2 to 2 inches larger than a upside down pie tin. Place pie tin right side up and ease pastry into pie tin and press edges firmly around edge. Create your own design around edge or use fork to ridge the edge. These shells can be used immediately or frozen for later use. MM Format Norma Wrenn By "Lloyd A.
