Categories: Cookies / Desserts

Ingredients:
1  Cup  Brown Sugar, Packed
3/4  Cup  Shortening, * see note
1/4  Cup  Molasses
1    Egg
2  Cups  All-Purpose Flour
2  Teaspoons  Baking Soda

1  Teaspoon  Ground Ginger
1/2  Teaspoon  Ground Cloves
1/4  Teaspoon  Salt
1  Cup  Raisins, (my own addition)
    Granulated Sugar

Directions:
* the recipe used 1/2 c butter and 1/4 c shortening. Mix brown sugar, shortening, molasses and egg in medium bowl. Stir in remaining ingredients except granulated sugar. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour but no longer than 24 hours. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Shape dough into 1-1/4 inch balls; roll in granulated sugar. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 11 minutes or just until set. Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet. About 3 dozen cookies. (This recipe is from a Betty Crocker cookie booklet that I pickup up someplace or other.)
