Directions:
Do not use "dip it" polishes. They are quick but destroy the subtleties of
the finish. Don't use a salt polish because salt pits silver. Tarnish is
oxidation and polishing rubs it off. Salad dressings, eggs and fruit
juices are the chief culprits to causing tarnish, along with exposure to
air.
Silver Polish:
Mix ammonia and whiting to form a paste. Polish silver, rinse well; buff
dry.
Silver Polishing Cloth:
Mix in a basin. Soak an old thin cloth napkin or tea towel in this
mixture.
Hang it up to dry over the basin. Use it to give a quick once over to
silver articles as needed.
Emergency polish:
Try toothpaste. This will shine up silver but be sure to rinse.
