Thick slices of sponge cake
Strawberries
Vanilla ice cream,
or chilled sweetened whipped cream
Directions:

Slice fresh strawberries, sprinkled with sugar, and leave to stand at room temperature until sugar has dissolved and some juices have been released from berries.
2.
How to put together a strawberry shortcake: a thick slice of cake split horizontally in half, placed on a serving plate with strawberries and strawberry juice between the 2 sides, the whole thing topped with ice cream or whipped cream.
